Dental Implants In Forster The Benefits And Advantages Are you searching for a way to replace a missing tooth, or multiple missing teeth in a way that looks attractive and feels entirely natural?

Would you like your replacement teeth to function precisely as healthy, natural teeth do? The good news is that dental implants Forster can replace missing teeth, with over a 95% success rate and a remarkable lifespan!

Even so, you may be asking yourself, is a dental implant worth the cost and aren’t there alternate replacement options? Perhaps options that are more economical?

At Forster Dental Centre we’re here to reassure you there are multiple tooth-replacement strategies, but that implants are among the best. Their initial cost may seem steep, but over time they are a bargain.

What is a dental implant?

To a dentist, a dental implant is an artificial tooth root placed into your jaw to hold a replacement tooth or bridge.

In everyday conversation, however, a dental implant is what we call the three-part structure of an entire replacement tooth:

  • The Fixture. The fixture is the titanium ‘root’ of the implant, which is embedded below the gum line.  The fixture is often coated with hydroxyapatite, which assists with osseointegration (fusion). Osseointegration is why implants last so long – the fixture permanently bonds to the jawbone.
  • The Abutment The abutment lies right on the gum line. It is screwed into the ‘root’ and holds the dental work above to the fixture.
  • The Prosthesis The prosthesis is the dental restoration placed on top of the abutment – a crown, bridge, or denture.

The advantages of dental implants

They are built to last! Dental implants are generally made of titanium, which is biocompatible and accepted by the body.

The implant creates a durable and robust foundation for the crown that will replace your lost tooth. Your natural bone fuses the implant into place.

This osseointegration gives dental implants the strength and stability needed to support replacement teeth, undergo daily use, and work like regular teeth.

Tooth implants have been successfully used for decades. The first patient to receive modern style implants kept them until he died, a period of some four decades! And the technology has only improved! Your implants should last from 25 years to a lifetime.

Dental Implants prevent bone deterioration and facial sagging. Bone loss occurs in the jaw bone if there are no tooth roots to stimulate the bone.

Where a tooth is lost, the jaw bone below the missing tooth deteriorates. If no implant is placed within one year of a lost tooth, the bone in that area loses a quarter of its volume, and bone loss only continues.

This can lead to additional dental problems and also to a sagging and sliding of facial tissues that looks unnatural and is prematurely aging.

Dentures can accelerate this process as they become loose, and rub against the jaw bone, slowly wearing it down. Because implants replace the tooth root and restore chewing, the jaw bone gets the stimulation necessary for natural bone growth.

Dental implants keep nearby teeth stable. The gap caused by a missing tooth can allow adjacent teeth to lean towards the gap.

This pulls those teeth out of position, and this can harm your appearance, your bite, and your ability to chew.

The tilting of these nearby teeth can cause future treatment for the missing tooth (implants or other treatments) to be more expensive and complicated.

A bad bite can also cause issues with your temporomandibular joint leading to pain and headaches.

Dental implants are convenient for daily life. Compared to dentures:

  • Dental implants stay in your mouth – not in a cup, like dentures.
  • Dental implants allow natural speaking; no embarrassment.
  • Dental implants don’t make “clicking’ noises.
  • Dental implants let you eat your favourite foods!
  • Dental implants don’t slip.
  • No cavities in implants!
  • Implants have the same bite strength as natural teeth.

Appearance. We saved the best for last! Dental implants give you the most natural looking replacement lost teeth. They can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth

and they look exactly like (or better than) your natural teeth!

These are only some of the advantages of dental implants. And of course, not all patients are perfect candidates for dental implants.
