How can I improve my smile with porcelain veneers and crowns?

by Dental Crowns, Porcelain Veneers

Forster Dental Tips How can I improve my smile with porcelain veneers and crowns There are multiple reasons you might want to get veneers or crowns. Perhaps you have teeth that are sensitive or broken.

And these are all excellent reasons to get veneers or crowns. But veneers and crowns can have another significant impact – they can brighten up your smile.

But whatever your reason, better teeth and teeth that appear more attractive, can increase your confidence, health, level of comfort, or even help you make connections with others.

Veneers and crowns are great ways to upgrade your smile, and both treatments are available at Forster Dental Centre.

The Cosmetic Advantages

Porcelain veneers and crowns can have substantial aesthetic effects on teeth.

They allow Forster Dental Centre to recreate healthy teeth in extremely natural looking ways, and ways that las far longer than other treatments such as whitening or bleaching.

Additionally, they are more flexible; they can be used to improve a range of blemishes that no other treatments can effectively treat.

Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers, or porcelain veneers, are extremely thin shells custom-made for your individual teeth.

These shells are bonded to the front surface of your teeth to upgrade their appearance.

Using veneers, only the front surfaces of your teeth are covered, and consequently, only a minor amount of enamel must be removed to make room for them.

Getting veneers fixes several dental problems:

  • Covering worn or chipped teeth.
  • Closing or erasing misalignments or gaps in teeth.
  • Hiding blemishes in teeth.
  • Covering discoloured teeth.

Crowns

Crowns mean a far more involved process than veneers, and they also require far more serious effects on existing teeth.

That’s because crowns fit over the entire visible part of the tooth, requiring reshaping of the tooth for proper crown fitting.

Because crowns are a more sweeping change, they are better suited to correct more severe issues than veneers, such as:

  • Badly broken or worn teeth.
  • Weakened teeth
  • Securing dental bridges
  • Covering teeth with large fillings

If you’re unsatisfied with your smile due to stained, cracked, broken, ground down, or decayed teeth, Forster Dental Centre can give you a healthy natural-looking smile by placing dental crowns or veneers on the problem teeth!

Using science, artistry, and laboratory techniques, we achieve beautiful results restoring teeth with all our crowns and porcelain veneers.

The expertise and technology we use, along with the best laboratories in Australia, allow us to manufacture restorations that are second to none.

Even better, if you remove unhealthy or cracked tooth structure and replace it with natural-looking porcelain, you protect the remaining tooth structure and achieve a beautiful result.

Veneers and crowns can last for many years with good oral hygiene habits. Our highly trained team will give you the information and tools you need to keep these restorations and your mouth healthy and attractive.

One substantial difference – impact on existing teeth

If all other things are equal, it is important to remember that veneers are a considerably more conservative treatment than crowns.

Both procedures require removal of some natural tooth, but far less natural tooth is removed in placing a veneer.

Veneers usually require the removal of a thin layer of tooth enamel from only the front of the tooth and will not usually need to have any effect on the core or the back of the tooth.

Compared to this, crowns require 60% to 75% of the visible tooth to be removed before placement, and this affects all surfaces of the tooth.

In some cases, of course, the more dramatic protective effects and greater overall impact crowns can have make them the better choice.

Differences in insurance coverage

Another difference to consider is that dental insurance treats crowns and veneers differently.

Veneers are considered aesthetic treatment and are far less likely to be covered by insurance. Crowns address both functional and aesthetic issues, so they are more often covered.

Keeping your new smile perfect

With proper care, veneers and crowns can last a decade or more. They are stain-resistant, but without adequate brushing and flossing, can become discoloured.

Because teeth-whitening treatments don’t work on these restorations, it is important to take good care of them on a daily basis.

Also, avoid damaging crowns and veneers by thoughtlessly chewing hard or sticky foods, or using teeth as tools for other than smiling or eating.
