How Dental Veneers Improve Your Smile Do you have stained or chipped teeth?

Dental veneers may help!

Dental veneers at Forster Dental Centre can improve the look of your teeth and upgrade the look of your overall smile.

We can treat several dental issues, including:

  • Stained/discoloured teeth
  • Chipped/cracked teeth
  • Worn-out teeth
  • Gapped teeth

In many cases, our answer to these kinds of issues is dental veneers, a practical, inexpensive, and beautiful way to upgrade the look of teeth and smiles.

Veneers are a relatively quick treatment, taking no more than two visits to finish and leaving you with a stunning new smile. If the appearance of your teeth is less than you might want it to be, dental veneers can restore your smile and confidence.

To help you decide if dental veneers are for you, visit Forster Dental Centre for a consultation – for now, let’s discuss what veneers are and what they can do to improve your smile.

What are Veneers?

They are hollow, thin shells of composite material or porcelain bonded to the front of your teeth:

  • To enhance the aesthetic appeal of your teeth and smile
  • To protect the tooth that lies beneath.

Veneers come in two varieties, composite and porcelain. Composites generally cost less than porcelain veneers.

Composite veneers are usually built onto existing teeth, layer after layer, as the patient is in the dental chair. This means that composite dental veneers can be completed in only one visit, which keeps the cost down and reduces treatment time.

Aesthetically, composite veneers are generally seen as not attractive as porcelain veneers, and typically they do not have the same longevity.

Porcelain veneers are generally fabricated in a dental laboratory and can come very close to the transparency and lustre of a healthy natural tooth. Porcelain veneers are also quite versatile and rugged.

Will I Get Cavities with Dental Veneers?

One great benefit of veneers is that they help protect teeth from dental caries (more commonly known as tooth decay or cavities).

As they are not subject to attack, they protect teeth against the acid bacteria produce, which causes holes in teeth.

Note that this doesn’t mean that veneers offer complete protection against cavities; that is still dependent on your approach to oral hygiene.

The teeth beneath veneers can still have plaque and tartar build-up, which is a precursor to decay. If cavities do develop, the teeth may reach a condition where they can no longer support your veneers, so good oral hygiene is needed.

If you currently have a high risk of decay, it is unlikely your dentist will recommend veneers as a solution to your tooth-related problems.

Obviously, part of that is your home oral hygiene and regular visits to Forster Dental Centre for check-ups and scale and cleans if needed.

Should you suffer from cavities after receiving dental veneers, there are two primary treatment options. For older veneers, replacement is often the best choice, while newer veneers may call for repair with a tooth-coloured bonding agent.

Dental veneers can be an outstanding, practical, and economical choice for teeth you need to improve. The first step, as always, is to set up a consultation with Forster Dental Centre.
